  Details: Cralle-Day Garden, behind the Center for Kentucky History KHS will kick off the Bill Monroe centennial with bluegrass and barbecue in the garden just before what would have been the musician’s 99th birthday. Join bluegrass scholar Tom Adler as he interviews and presents performances by Jim Smoak and Danny Jones, former members of Bill Monroe’s band, the Blue Grass Boys, and master bluegrass musicians Michael Cleveland, Larry Raley and Steve Cooley.   Details: 10:30 a.m. - Researching Virginia Repositories Roger Futrell will detail the record groups—city, county and state--that are unique to Virginia and describe the major repositories that house Virginia sources. From natural disasters to burned courthouses, the loss of historical records can put up seemingly insurmountable barriers to your research efforts. However, creative strategies exist for finding clues in other records that can help fill the gaps in your research. Louise Jones, KHS director of special collections and library, will offer suggestions about what to do next when records and documents are missing. Registration required by noon on Sept. 10. Day retired with 8,804 victories—fourth all time. His career is flush with big wins, including 12 Breeders’ Cups, nine Triple Crowns, five Preakness Stakes, one Kentucky Derby and three Belmont Stakes. Join us for a day with Day.
